To our campus community,
We want to share an important change to our bConnected services that will begin in 2024 when Google will start charging UC Berkeley for storage that exceeds our contractually allocated 2.6 petabytes. In anticipation of this, starting on Jan. 24, 2023, we will be creating storage quotas for new users, and placing existing users in a containment quota tier. The good news is that 98% of accounts will not be impacted by this project and no one’s day-to-day activities in Google will be impacted by the changes on Jan. 24.
What do I need to do?
You do not need to take any action to reduce your storage usage unless our team contacts you. Our project team will email you directly if action is needed. If you are interested in knowing what your current Google storage is, check your usage here
Timeline & Details
We will be making the first phase of changes to the Google Workspace service on Jan. 24, 2023. These changes will not have any direct impact on your day-to-day operations.
All newly created accounts will receive an automatic quota of 150GB total for Google Workspace core services including bMail, Google Drive, and Google Photos.
All existing accounts will be placed into a containment quota tier to slow the growth of content in our Google accounts. These containment quotas are constructed to allow for flexibility so that they do not disrupt your work.
If you have any questions, visit our FAQ where we have provided more details and helpful information. After Jan. 24, 2023, please contact us if you need assistance with your Google Workspace storage quota or need other technical support.
