Approximately four thousand bConnected Box users received email messages early Saturday morning notifying them that their accounts were updated with additional email addresses.
These notifications were legitimate, but were inadvertently triggered by running a script while staging for a series of updates to Box scheduled for next week. The script updated Box accounts with users’ names and other public directory information attributes including email addresses to improve the overall usability of the service. The additional email addresses that were added to accounts were the users’ @berkeley.edu email aliases. No email addresses were removed from users accounts.
We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Please let us know at bconnected@berkeley.edu if you have any additional questions.
