User Experience Research Intern

POSITION  OVERVIEW

The UC Berkeley Mobile App is undergoing design revision. The team is looking for a User Experience Design intern to aid with this process.

Pay Rate $20/hour

Remote with option to work on-site

Department: Productivity and Collaboration, Berkeley IT

JOB DUTIES

Design

  • Work with full-time UX designer to create interactive experiences

  • Thoughtfully create process flows, wireframes, visual design mockups, and prototypes as needed to communicate interaction behaviors 

  • Collaborate with developers to ensure execution on project deliverables

  • Work with campus partners to gain insights into project objectives. Meet with campus groups & events to collect input for new features of the mobile app

Research

  • Interview students to capture their experiences and identify their needs. Synthesize research findings via deliverables such as user flows and journey maps

  • Perform usability testing and other methods for gathering user feedback

Examples of Projects and Daily Tasks:

  • Design new modules and functionality to provide value to UC Berkeley students, faculty, or staff. Examples include: Parking availability map, room booking

Learned on the job:

  • A comprehensive understanding of what is required both technically and non-technically to manage and build mobile app pages in the Modo platform.

Attends training and keeps up with training & administrative duties:

  • Keeps online calendar (bCal) updated

  • Reports status to the Supervisor regularly

  • Attend FERPA Security and any other mandatory training.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to create organized and clear documentation

  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff

  • Problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Experience prioritizing tasks

  • Ability to work collaboratively and build and maintain strong working relationships

  • Availability to work 10 hours per week during Fall/Spring semester, with the possibility of 15-30 hours per week during summer

  • Minimum GPA of 2.0

Preferred:

  • Experience with completing UX design or research projects

  • Proficiency working with Figma

  • Understanding and knowledge of web development principles, methodologies and tools helpful

  • A portfolio demonstrating assessment of user needs and a strong eye for interaction design

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 

Terms of Employment

  1. The period of employment for this position begins upon hire and can continue through the end of 2022 - 2023 academic year

  2. Must be a currently enrolled UC Berkeley student

  3. Must clear a criminal background check due to the level of data access and access to systems and physical spaces required by the position

  4. Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory job performance evaluation by the UC Berkeley Mobile Program Manager
