All expired accounts in Box will begin to be disabled on Sept. 14, 2022 as part of the Box lifecycle strategy and Service Level Agreement implemented earlier this year. Expired Box accounts occur when the account holder no longer has an affiliation with UC Berkeley. This means that customers may lose access to some content that has been shared with them by an expired account.

On Thursday April 21, as part of the new Box lifecycle strategy and Service Level Agreement, the bConnected Team will be deploying a new tool for UC Berkeley’s Box customers called Collaborator Reports. The reports will be distributed monthly moving forward. These reports:

Today Google introduced a new storage policy that will eliminate the current unlimited storage option for education in July 2022. Because these changes are similar to those announced by Box last year, we will be taking a bigger picture look at the overall file storage and collaboration strategy for campus. Both Google and Box are funded as part of the Productivity Suite and any decisions about these service offerings will be a part of the ongoing governance conversation with campus partners.

There is a global outage for Box.com, which impacts UC Berkeley Box accounts. If you try to access the Box webapp you will see a 502 response. Box engineers are working to resolve the issue.

December 10, 2018

On January 31, 2019, Box will deprecate support for WebDAV. The Berkeley Box Support Team will be contacting the 25 impacted users, and provide recommended alternative options.

As previously announced, Box has ended support for Box apps and custom apps using an insecure security protocol (TLS 1.0) on June 25, 2018. These applications will stop working on November 12, 2018 at 8:00AM. Any individuals still using unsupported apps will be contacted directly by Box on the week of September 17, 2018.

In order to maintain the highest security standards, promote the safety of customers' data, and align with industry-wide best practices, Box will disable the TLS 1.0 encryption protocol across all Box services on June 25, 2018 (postponed from June 15, 2018). This generally affects older versions of Box Sync, Box Drive, and Box Edit. The bConnected Box Service team will contact any users who have used tools that use the TLS 1.0 encryption protocol within the past 30 days.

Update 6/15 8:00am: This work was successfully completed, without an outage.

Maintenance on the Earl Warren Hall Data Center firewalls between midnight and 3 AM on Friday, June 15th may affect your ability to log in via CalNet to services including the bConnected Google and Box services, and the bCourses Projects sites.

If you are already logged into Google or Box or bCourses, your access should not be affected.

Good news for Box account holders! Beginning August 28th, all of your bConnected email aliases will be synced with your Box account. This means your collaborators will be able to share content with your primary or alias email addresses, and it will be associated with your UC Berkeley Box account.
